This 1960 spot filled adventure is an animated Disney children’s classic that is also enjoyable for adults. After all, who can resist all those adorable, spotted puppies and the deliciously evil Cruella De Vil?
3. Notting Hill
A delicious romantic comedy - one of the earliest and unquestionably one of the best. Hugh Grant plays the floppy-haired and quietly charming William Thacker who owns a Travel Bookstore in Notting Hill. Julia Roberts stars as, well, herself - the most famous film star in the world.
4. Passport to Pimlico
This 1949 classic comedy details the efforts of the residents of Pimlico to win independence from Britain following the discovery of documents showing that it is actually part of Burgundy.
5. Babylon
Directed by Franco Russo, this 1980 film does an excellent job of capturing the trials and tribulations of black urban youth. The reggae soundtrack provides an engaging backdrop.
6. Four Weddings and a Funeral
This 1994 romantic comedy directed by Mike Newell, is a sappy but entertaining look at the eternal search for love.
7. The Three Penny Opera
Made in 1931, The Three Penny Opera, is a highly adept remake of Bertol Brecht’s controversial and profound play about a prostitute. Lotte Lenya beautifully plays the leading role.
8. Night and the City
This 1950 noir classic details the misadventures and disappointments of a slick con man who never quite lives up to his dreams.
9. Riff-Raff
Directed in 1990 by Ken Loach, Riff Raff, does a convincing job of telling the story of the British working class through the lives of a construction worker and his unemployed, pop singer girlfriend.
10. The Great Rock’n’Roll Swindle
This 1980 documentary directed by Julien Temple covers the intriguing point of view of the Sex Pistol’s manager, Malcom McLaren, and how he feels that the Sex Pistols specifically and Punk Rock in general abused him.
